Tessa Mansfield Hirte is an attorney in Foley & Mansfield’s Minneapolis office. She practices in the areas of commercial litigation, employment and real estate.

Tessa focuses her practice in employment litigation, defending employers against a range of wrongful terminations claims, including gender, age, and disability discrimination, and claims involving the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). She also represents creditors in state, federal, and bankruptcy court litigation and mortgage lenders in foreclosure-related matters.

Tessa has additional experience litigating in a range of practice areas, including small business disputes, contract claims, civil rights actions, and in-house courts. She possesses significant experience and expertise in legal writing, including writing briefs for the Minnesota Court of Appeals, the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.

During law school, Tessa was a student attorney with the Edina City prosecutor, assisting in misdemeanor cases. She also was a staff member on the William Mitchell Law Review.

  • Tessa maintains a close connection with Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid, including volunteering at occasional clinics and arranging referrals to pro bono attorneys outside of legal aid.
  • Tessa volunteers for the Tubman Pro Bono Safety Project representing victims of domestic violence in obtaining Orders for Protection and related family court proceedings.
  • Tessa has volunteered for the Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid in the Immigration Law Project, primarily serving immigrant women who were victims of crime and/or domestic violence. She assisted clients in obtaining visas based on their cooperation in the prosecution of crime or under the provisions of the Violence Against Women Act. She also assisted immigrant children in obtaining Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.
