Tessa Mansfield



Tessa Mansfield Hirte is a Partner in the Minneapolis office. She defends employers in all aspects of labor and employment-related litigation. She draws upon her practical experience and creative legal thinking to craft effective litigation strategies. Tessa has represented clients before federal and state trial and appellate courts, arbitration tribunals, and administrative agencies, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Minnesota Department of Human Rights.

Tessa Mansfield Hirte helps employers fight a range of labor and employment-related claims, including gender, age, and disability discrimination claims to arise under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the National Labor Relations Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA). In addition, she litigates other workplace matters, such as restrictive covenants, employment-related torts, and breaches of employment contracts.

Tessa also assists companies of all sizes, from startups to Fortune 500 companies, with business-related disputes, including closely-held shareholder disputes, contract claims, and business torts.

Before joining Foley Mansfield, Tessa served as a law clerk for Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid and was a student attorney with the Edina City prosecutor. Prior to attending law school, Tessa worked as a paralegal at a Minneapolis-based immigration law firm.

Tessa served as part of a legal team that obtained a defense verdict in a multi-million dollar closely-held shareholder dispute following a bench trial. She participated in the successful defense of a multi-million dollar shareholder dispute in a closely held corporation, prevailing in significant motion practice and resulting in a favorable settlement for the client.

Tessa defended a large southern-Minnesota based employer against a charge of discrimination before the EEOC and successfully obtained dismissal of the charge.

Tessa maintains a close connection with Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid, including volunteering at occasional clinics and arranging referrals to pro bono attorneys outside of legal aid.
Tessa volunteers for the Tubman Pro Bono Safety Project representing victims of domestic violence in obtaining Orders for Protection and related family court proceedings.
Tessa has volunteered for the Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid in the Immigration Law Project, primarily serving immigrant women who were victims of crime and/or domestic violence. She assisted clients in obtaining visas based on their cooperation in the prosecution of crime or under the provisions of the Violence Against Women Act. She also assisted immigrant children in obtaining Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.
