BIOGRAPHY

Kevin O’Connor, a partner in Foley & Mansfield’s Miami office, and Chair of the firm's Medical Malpractice Defense group, focuses his practice in medical malpractice defense, product liability and construction litigation.

With more than 30 years of litigation experience, he has served as lead counsel in more than 250 jury trials throughout the state of Florida. He has tried cases in both state and federal court, and has litigated in federal court in Michigan and in the state courts of New Hampshire, Georgia, and Ohio. Kevin has also represented clients in numerous administrative hearings in Miami and Tallahassee.

Kevin has successfully tried cases relating to professional liability including claims for medical malpractice, in which he has represented hospitals, nurses and individual physicians. He has also tried catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death cases involving product liability, auto and premises liability.

Kevin has both arbitrated and tried to verdict cases involving alleged construction defects, serving as trial counsel for a variety of building contractors and engineering firms. The cases he managed involved not only allegations of millions of dollars of property damage, but also catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death claims. 

Kevin is a member of the Florida Bar, the District of Columbia Bar and the American Board of Trial Advocates, Miami Chapter.  A past member of the Florida Bar Standing Committee on Professionalism, he served as chairman of the Florida Bar Grievance Committee for the 11th Judicial Circuit. He has lectured extensively at legal and medical seminars throughout his career.  

Kevin has served on various public service and charitable boards and committees including the Archdiocese of Miami Education Foundation. He recently completed his term as Commissioner on the Judicial Nominating Commission for the Third District of Court Appeal.

Foley & Mansfield’s medical malpractice defense trial team successfully defended our client physician at the trial level and through the plaintiff’s subsequent appeal, obtaining an appellate affirmance of the trial court’s dismissal of the case with prejudice.
