Ebony Morris Hughes, a Partner in Foley Mansfield’s New Orleans office, is an experienced litigator who focuses her practice on transportation, mass tort, complex casualty, workers compensation, construction defect, product liability, and premises liability matters. She represents a diverse range of clients, including educational institutions, Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies, trucking companies, motor carriers, small businesses, and individuals, providing strategic counsel throughout all stages of litigation with a focus on achieving efficient and favorable outcomes.
Ebony has extensive experience handling complex fact and expert discovery, depositions, dispositive and other motion practice, settlement negotiations, and mediations. Throughout her career, she has secured summary judgments and other favorable resolutions on behalf of her clients in complex litigation matters. Her practice is distinguished by a thorough understanding of the factual and legal issues presented in complex disputes, as well as a practical, results-oriented approach to litigation and resolution.
Prior to joining Foley Mansfield, Ebony was a Litigation Associate in the New Orleans office of a regional law firm, where she developed substantial experience handling all aspects of complex and general litigation from inception through resolution across a variety of practice areas.
In addition to her litigation practice, Ebony is deeply committed to professional leadership and service. She is an active member of the Defense Research Institute (DRI) and served as Chair of DRI’s 2025 Diversity for Success Seminar, one of DRI’s premier programs dedicated to advancing diversity and inclusion within the legal profession. She is also a member of the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel (FDCC), an invitation-only organization comprised of accomplished attorneys and industry professionals whose practices focus on the defense of civil claims and the representation of insurers and corporations.
Ebony is also active in the Louisiana legal community. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel (LADC), an organization representing more than 1,100 Louisiana attorneys primarily engaged in the defense of civil litigation. She is a past President of the Greater New Orleans Louis A. Martinet Legal Society, a prominent organization dedicated to professional excellence, mentorship, leadership, and community service. Through her leadership in the organization, Ebony has cultivated strong and lasting professional relationships with attorneys, local counsel, and members of the state and federal judiciary throughout Louisiana.
Committed to the development of the next generation of attorneys, Ebony regularly mentors younger lawyers, particularly attorneys from historically underrepresented backgrounds. She also serves as a First Assistant Examiner in Constitutional Law for the Louisiana Supreme Court Committee on Bar Admissions, contributing to the evaluation and preparation of candidates seeking admission to the Louisiana Bar.
