Foley Mansfield is pleased to announce that Minneapolis-based Partner Elizabeth Sorenson Brotten has been elected President of the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association (MDLA). Liz has previously chaired MDLA’s Products Liability committee, and co-founded its Women in the Law Committee.
For over 60 years, MDLA has been dedicated to serving the needs of lawyers engaging primarily in the defense and trial of civil disputes. The organization provides support for the state’s defense lawyers in a variety of ways, including by representing the defense viewpoint in handling problems on legislation, court procedure and practice, either directly or through the Bar Association; facilitating the exchange of information on court decisions, briefs, witnesses, trends, and procedures throughout Minnesota, as well as information on expert witnesses and obtaining them in various fields; and providing educational and professional development opportunities that benefit the member and civil defense practice.
Liz Brotten is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and Chair of the firm’s Product Liability Practice Group. She devotes her practice to defending product manufacturers, suppliers, and installers in high-risk product liability and toxic tort cases, particularly asbestos, benzene, and Legionnaire’s Disease cases throughout the upper Midwest. In addition to her role with MDLA, Liz serves on the Defense Research Institute’s Women in the Law and Toxic Tort & Environmental Law national steering committees.
