BIOGRAPHY

Doug McIntyre is a partner in Foley & Mansfield’s Minneapolis office, where he chairs the firm’s national construction and design professional practices. His 30 years of general liability work has involved the representation of clients and their insurers spanning the United States. Doug’s clientele seek his advice on all matters of risk management, including contract analysis and drafting, insurance coverage review, and optimal dispute resolution strategies.

For the past 20 years, Doug’s practice has concentrated on the defense of national, regional, and local general contractors, land developers, subcontractors, architects, construction managers, engineers and materialmen. His cases routinely involve highly complex, multi-million dollar matters involving all types of commercial and residential projects, including defect and delay claims; negligent design claims; products liability and wrongful death claims on project sites; geotechnical and subsidence issues; structural collapse claims; and townhome, condominium and homeowners’ association litigation.  He and his department work with general liability and design professional liability insurers throughout the nation to obtain extraordinary results for their insureds. In addition, Doug has provided his legal skills to restaurant owners, bars, malls, and other clients involved in the hospitality industry.

Doug’s background is in trial litigation. He is board certified by the Minnesota State Bar Association as a Certified Civil Trial Specialist, an honor earned by less than 3% of Minnesota lawyers.  Doug’s litigation experience is deep, and he maintains an active general liability practice that includes automobile and trucking accident claims; catastrophic fire and explosion losses; agricultural storage building losses; product liability claims; bad faith and fraud claims; employment claims; and workers’ compensation matters.

Doug has lectured frequently to his peers, clients, and insurers in the area of construction and professional design law, subrogation law, and workers’ compensation law.  He has achieved an AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating possible from his peers for legal ability and adherence to professional standards of conduct, ethics, reliability, and diligence. Doug has also been recognized by Super Lawyers  as a top Minnesota attorney.
