Doug McIntrye to Teach at 2014 Builders Association Continuing Education Programs
Douglas McIntyre, a partner at Foley & Mansfield and chair of its Construction practice, will be a featured instructor for 2014 Builders Association of the Twin Cities BATC-U continuing education schedule. BATC courses provide CE credits to contractors and real estate professionals.
“Responding to Defect Claims: What Builders Need to Know” will be offered on Tuesday, January 28 from 8:00-10:00 am. This course provides a practical summary defining defects and warranties, and providing a road map on how to deal with customers, lawyers and insurers.
On Tuesday, February 11 from 8:00-9:00 am, Doug will present “Why Builders Need Lawyers: A Journey Through the Mine Field”. This course is aimed at all construction professionals — general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and their lawyers — and will provide an informal review of the most common mistakes and misperceptions that keep builders’ lawyers in business. The discussion will include legal issues from everyday warranty work; dealing with insurance claims, lawyers, and lawsuits; the use (or non-use) of subcontracts to share risk; how and when to document disputes; and licensing issues for contractors and remodelers.
