Brian Smith is a partner in the Seattle office of Foley & Mansfield, where he focuses his litigation practice on toxic torts, commercial disputes and employment law. Brian has more than 20 years of experience litigating a wide variety of personal injury, employment, real estate, commercial and securities matters through trial and arbitration.
His trial experience includes many successful jury verdicts for his clients, and he has handled cases through favorable outcomes in Michigan, Washington, New York, Wisconsin, Texas, and North Carolina. He is skilled in handling cases from start to finish, having tried more than 30 cases in the state and federal courts. In addition to his work as an advocate, Brian has served as a mediator in the state courts and as an arbitrator for FINRA in securities disputes.
His personal injury experience includes handling many asbestos exposure and premises liability claims, and in employment law he has litigated matters including age, race, sex and disability discrimination, as well as covenants not to compete, wrongful discharge, defamation and sales commission disputes.
He has represented homeowners, financial institutions and businesses extensively in real estate litigation, including lien disputes, land use issues, foreclosures, easements and other property matters.
He has also represented both customers and financial advisers on securities claims for fraud, unsuitability and improper trading, and broker-dealers in the area of trade secrets, employment agreements and injunctive relief.
Brian has presented at seminars for both lawyers and business executives on a range of topics, including premises liability defense, employment law developments, trial advocacy and customer securities disputes.
