Seymour Mansfield, a partner in the Minneapolis office of Foley & Mansfield and Chair of its Firm-wide International Business Law Group, has more than 40 years of diverse legal experience. He focuses his practice on commercial litigation, executive/professional employment matters, international business matters – specifically US-Chinese business deals and disputes – and early stage medical devices ventures.

Seymour is licensed to practice in Minnesota and Illinois, before the U.S. Supreme Court and many federal district and appeal courts. He is a MSBA Board Certified Employment Law Specialist, and for more than two decades, he has been selected Minnesota "Super Lawyer" and among the Top 40 Super Lawyers in Labor and Employment Law, as well as "Super Lawyer" and "Leading Lawyer" in Commercial Litigation.

As a leader and member of the board of US-China Business Connections (UCBC), www.ucbcgroup.org, Seymour is currently co-chairing three important projects, including a UCBC Trade Mission to China in April 2013.

Prior to joining Foley & Mansfield, Seymour was the co-founding partner of the Minneapolis-based firm of Mansfield Tanick & Cohen, P.A. from 1989 to 2012. Before that, he was principal shareholder in Seymour Mansfield & Associates, and prior to that, he was a legal aid lawyer in Illinois and Minnesota, culminating in his tenure as the Executive Director and Chief Counsel for Minnesota's largest program for civil legal aid to the poor and disadvantaged in Minneapolis and 22 counties.

Seymour frequently lectures and writes on business law and litigation-related topics. He resides in southwest Minneapolis with Susan, his wife of over 40 years. He has three grown children, Alexis, Justin and Steven, and enjoys scuba diving, underwater photography, ping-pong, tennis, biking and fitness training.

  • Don’t Mess Around with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (March 2009)
    • In the 1970s, a popular television show's jingle warned not to "mess around with Jim." If corporate counsel today were to resort to jingles to reinforce warnings to their clients, a plea not to "mess around" with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) would definitely be in order.
