Doug is a partner and the chair of Foley & Mansfield’s Construction Law practice group. His 20 years of practice has involved the representation of clients across the nation in the defense of complex construction claims, civil matters, general liability defense, and subrogation issues. Doug is a Certified Civil Trial Specialist who has successfully represented clients in the state and federal courts in Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
Doug’s current practice focuses on the defense of national, regional, and local general contractors, land developers, subcontractors, architects, engineers, and materialmen. He has handled a variety of cases involving commercial and residential construction, personal injuries, wrongful death claims, workers’ compensation claims, and property damage claims arising out of construction projects. Doug’s legal work for his clients has led to the resolution of numerous multi-million dollar suits with claims as diverse as construction zone motor vehicle accidents, townhome and condominium construction defect claims, construction delay claims, and a variety of complex homeowners’ association claims against developers.
Doug also practices in the firm’s General Liability practice group. Doug has a wide range of trial experience that includes case involving automobile and truck accidents, premises liability claims, catastrophic property losses, product liability claims, bad faith insurance claims, workers’ compensation claims, and medical malpractice claims. In addition to this trial experience, Doug has represented his clients in the defense of municipal and peace officer liability claims, and employment claims.
Doug has lectured in the areas of construction law, subrogation law, and workers’ compensation law for continuing legal education seminars. He has achieved an AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating possible from his peers for legal ability and adherence to professional standards of conduct, ethics, reliability, and diligence. Doug has also been recognized by Super Lawyers as a top Minnesota attorney.
