Demetra is an experienced litigator with over a decade of successfully defending clients in the areas of toxic torts, commercial litigation, construction defect and general civil litigation. Her trial experience includes co-chairing a capital murder case as well as assisting in numerous asbestos trials. Demetra has successfully defended contractors, product manufacturers, suppliers, and premise owners in product liability cases. She has acted as both local counsel and National Coordinating Counsel for product manufacturers as well as premise owners.
In addition to vast and diverse litigation and trial experience, Demetra has successfully handled family law cases involving divorce and custody issues. Demetra is a trained mediator, having completed 40 hours of divorce mediation training at Northwestern University.
Demetra devotes many hours performing pro bono work in various areas of the law. In 2010, she successfully argued a bond motion in a capital murder case that had previously been denied five times. Her pro bono experience includes family law, criminal law, contract law, and collections.
Demetra was recently appointed as an Investigator for the Judicial Evaluation Committee of the Chicago Bar Association. According to the Chicago Bar Association, by “Board resolution, the Judicial Evaluation Committee is the semi-autonomous committee of The Chicago Bar Association that conducts evaluations of candidates for judicial offices and sitting judges seeking retention within Cook County. As a service to the public, the CBA reports the findings of the JEC for all elections. The evaluations are designed to inform the public and the courts of the qualifications, independence and integrity of judicial candidates. The CBA believes that the quality of the administration of justice in our courts is determined in large part by the quality of our judges.”
Demetra is active in the Chicago Bar Association and volunteers her time as a Judge for the Annual Moot Court Competition. She is a member of several CBA Committees including Civil Practice, Domestic Relations, Tort Litigation, Ethics, and Insurance Law.
