Kevin is an Of Counsel attorney in Foley & Mansfield’s Miami Office. With more than 30 years of litigation experience, he has served as lead counsel in over 200 jury trials throughout the state of Florida in both state and federal courts, has litigated in federal court in Michigan and state courts in New Hampshire, Georgia, and Ohio. Kevin has also represented clients in numerous administrative hearings in Miami and Tallahassee. His clients have prevailed in over 90% of cases going to jury verdict, final arbitration, or dispositive administrative hearing. He has primarily been involved in professional liability trials, specifically claims for medical malpractice in which he has represented hospitals, nurses and individual physicians. He has also tried catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death cases involving product liability, auto and premises liability cases.

Kevin has also arbitrated (15-20) and tried to jury many (8-10) cases involving alleged construction defects. For many years he served as trial counsel for a variety of building contractors and engineering firms. The cases involved not only allegations of millions of dollars of property damage but also catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death claims associated with allegations of construction defects.

As one example, Kevin successfully defended 30-40 individual cases filed by homeowners who claimed millions of dollars worth of structural damage to their homes allegedly arising from blasting activities of a large contractor. We were able to convince three separate juries that the damages were primarily due to structural and foundation deficiencies. The remainder of the cases were dismissed following the last trial.

Kevin has been a member of the Florida Bar for 32 years, and the District of Columbia Bar for 27 years. He is a past member of the Florida Bar Standing Committee on Professionalism and has served as chairman of the Florida Bar Grievance Committee for the 11th Judicial Circuit. He has lectured extensively at legal and medical seminars throughout his career. Kevin has been consistently ranked as a top trial lawyer by three prestigious publications.  He has achieved the highest possible Martindale-Hubbell rating for the highest level of legal ability and adherence to professional standards of conduct, ethics, reliability and diligence.*

O’Connor holds a J.D. from the University of Notre Dame, where he served as associate editor of the Law Review. He graduated maxima cum laude from St. Edwards University, where he served as Student Body President, was named Man of the Year, and was listed in “Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities”.

Kevin has served on various public service and charitable boards and committees including the Archdiocese of Miami Education Foundation and is currently serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of St. Edwards University. He recently completed his term as Commissioner on the Judicial Nominating Commission for the Third District of Court Appeal, a position to which he was appointed by former Florida Governor Jeb Bush.
