Peter's practice is focused entirely on litigation. He defends manufacturers and premises owners in asbestos exposure personal injury cases. He has taken four living cancer cases to verdict against one of the country’s premier claimant law firms.
Peter also defends business owners in environmental contamination cases. One such case, City of Pomona vs. John Michael Faull, et al., was a long-running matter alleging chemical contamination (PCE) on a site in Pomona, California. Peter successfully defended Margaret Roff, former owner of Calsol, Inc., against the City, which claimed substantial damages from Ms. Roff under state and federal law. Peter was retained by Ms. Roff's insurance carrier ten days before trial.
In addition to asbestos exposure and enviromental contamination cases, Peter handles real estate related matters. Recently, Peter resolved a case for a property owner who was sued by a Northern California redevelopment agency for eminent domain and violation of California’s Polanco Act. The agency sought to acquire the client’s waterfront property and force the client to remediate allegedly significant environmental contamination. The case was ultimately settled wherein the client was allowed to retain ownership of the property and the cost of remediation was shared with prior dischargers. Peter also recently amicably resolved for a Southern California commerical landlord a significant personal injury matter brought by a tenant claiming the landlord violated the implied warranty of habitability. Peter also handles matters involving secured transactions, forgery, broker malpractice, easements and negotiable instruments. He also is experienced in handling subrogation claims and enforcing judgments.
Notable trial court cases:
City of Pomona vs. John Michael Faull, et al. (environmental contamination)
Tommie Williams vs. Carver Pump Company, Inc. (living mesothelioma)
Ernesto Escamilla vs. American Standard, Inc. (living lung cancer)
George LaChapelle vs. Bondex International (living mesothelioma)
Robert Treggett vs. Alfa Laval, Inc. (living mesothelioma)
Integrated Financial Solutions vs. Bank of America (negotiable instruments/forgery)
Land Title Insurance Co., et al. vs. Dusko Cavic (negotiable instruments/forgery)
Gregory Adler vs. Stewart Bloom, et al. (accountant malpractice/stock advice)
Notable published appellate decisions:Nev-Visions Sports v. Sorem/McAdam/Bartells, (2000) 86 Cal.App.4th 303 (accountant malpractice/fraud)
In addition to his legal practice, Peter is a former California state amateur surfing champion, raced as a master in USCF road cycling races, and is a workout junkie—doing plyometrics, pilates, road cycling and working out at Equinox Fitness Club.
