BIOGRAPHY

Demetra Arapkis Christos, a partner in Foley & Mansfield's Chicago and Detroit offices, is an experienced commercial and civil litigator with more than a decade of successfully defending businesses and select individuals. Her areas of focus include E&O and D&O liability, employment disputes, complex coverage matters, construction defects, and toxic tort litigation. Demetra is also a trained mediator.

In employment matters, Demetra represents clients in disputes involving wrongful discharge, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, whistleblower, compensation, and other employment related claims. In related professional liability matters, she defends professionals and companies against D&O and E&O claims ranging from simple negligence to complex malpractice.

Her vast and diverse litigation and trial experience includes assisting in numerous asbestos trials, serving as both local counsel and National Coordinating Counsel for product manufacturers and premise owners, and successfully defending contractors, product manufacturers, suppliers and premise owners in product liability cases. She has also co-chaired a first degree murder case and handled select family law cases involving divorce and custody issues.

Demetra devotes many hours performing pro bono work in various areas of the law. In 2010, she successfully argued a bond motion in a first degree murder case that had previously been denied five times. Her pro bono experience includes family law, criminal law, contract law, and collections.

Demetra is active in the Chicago Bar Association, and serves as an Investigator for the Bar’s Judicial Evaluation Committee. She also volunteers her time as a Judge for the Annual Moot Court Competition.

Additionally, Demetra serves on the Board of Directors of her Homeowners' Association in Glenview, Illinois.
